"Advanced" Model Gets it Right!

The newest version of the Bosch Power Box is a winner. The poor ratings in other reviews refer to the original version of this unit. I am listening to it as I type. Sound quality and radio reception are now strong points for the new PB10-CD.
The new model includes many upgraded audio features including separate bass and treble controls, remote control, speaker upgrades with separate tweeters and strong clean sound. The built-in CD player is great on CDs I burn myself as well as regular CDs. Bosch is offering a free IPod dock for a slick set-up to satisfy us IPoders.
On the job site, the GFCI is super handy and the square roll cage lets you sit on it, stand on it, stack on it...things you can't do with the "boom box" units from other vendors. I do not use Bosch cordless tools, but I still appreciate the battery charger on the Power Box. Whenever you plug it into an outlet, the battery I purchased separatly recharges and is good to go where there is no AC power.
The feel of the controls is excellent and you can tell just by touch that this is a quality product. Just be sure you buy the new "Advanced" model with the folding rubber antenna and the keychain remote control. You will not be disappointed!
Update After 10 Months...I revisited the reviews on this unit and it seems to have the widest range of opinions of anything listed by Amazon. After using the Power Box for about a year, warm weather...cold weather...whatever, I still find it to be an absolutly great job site piece of equipment. I live in Minnesota and have NO cold weather issues. It still sounds great, no skipping or reception problems and charges Bosch batteries completely. I wish all my equipment worked as well as this radio. |
New Version! Ignore old ratings. Old problems resolved + new features!

First off: If you are considering this, buy it! It's a beautiful thing. One question: Why on earth did Bosch not use a new model number for their 'advanced' Power Box? All the negative reviews are about the old version and keep people from realizing how great this product is. This 'running change' is definitely worthy of a new model number, and deserves many more stars.
I looked at the Power Box a hundred times- on Amazon, and at my local HD store... and almost bought one a dozen times, but the reviews on Amazon made it clear that this was a near miss with some glaring problems. Well, I've had the new 'Advanced Model'that came out around Christmas for about a month now, and LOVE IT!
Reception is crystal clear, which is what everyone complained about before. Also, Sound quality is great, and the remote is very cool. My only complaint: the Remote is IR, so you have to point it directly at the front of the box. If you are too far off-angle, the IR-remote is fairly useless. WHY WHY WHY didn't they use an RF remote on this rather than IR. Line of site remotes don't make much sense on a job site!!
It would also be nice if there was a way to actually control IPOD playback via the iPOD dock & remote. Alas, the dock is simply power, and audio connection- no control. That said, it is a slick 'add-on' designed specifically for the powerbox.
So, two items for the wishlist, but overall, a great, great design, with super sound, and none of the gotchas of the previous versions. |
Updated unit resolves problems, adds features

I have looked at purchasing the Power Box for over a year. I previously decided against the unit due to its relatively high price and terrible reviews here on Amazon. When I recently saw the unit at the local home improvment store, I realized that the unit had been upgraded significantly.
THIS review describes the ADVANCED Power Box. It appears Bosch listened to customers' complaints and fixed the earlier unit's reception problems. This unit now boasts better reception with a rubber whip-style antenna, more amp power, EQ controls, and a remote control. Mission accomplished! While still a little expensive, it works flawlessly. Reception is great, controls are easy to use, and the display is easy to see. A clock dominates the front display. The other features just make sense: charge or run from Bosch battery, GFCI outlets, 12v power. As for sound quality, it's about what you'd expect for a radio with small, water-proof 5 inch speakers and modest amplifier power. The unit does have separate tweeters which improve the sound considerably.
This durable gem should last for years. |

| This thing is a lot hotter than I was expecting, especially at the price. Plus, when the neighbors want to get too loud with their boom-boxes, I just take this out, set it up, look them in the eye and turn it on .. and watch them cringe in terror. |
Includes Remote, Now Advance

Disregard any complaints regarding this unless they are complaining about the Advance model. Amazon is now shipping the advance with remote. Great product and with stands a drop down the stairs. I don't really use the remote since it is more for the CD player and when I listen to a cd I just let it play all the way through, but I guess it is a nice option. Radio has worked great in the basement level apartments and I'm able to hear it through most work I do.
This is a little heavier than my small radio I am use to but, now I only carry this instead of my cell phone charger, radio, battery charger, and power strip. If I were to wish for another feature I would want it to be able to project wireless music in my ear protection. |
